Cooper Levenson Awards Scholarships to Area High School Seniors
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Three area high school seniors were awarded Cooper Levenson scholarships to further their education. Rose Carmona and Nayhelie Fermin-Taveras of Atlantic City High School and Anthony Johnson of Pleasantville High School were honored at their schools’ awards ceremonies in mid-June. The Cooper Levenson attorneys who served on the scholarship committee chose these students because of their impressive academic achievements and the accolades that their teachers and mentors shared about their schoolwork and their character. The committee also chose these students because they demonstrated academic excellence, were dedicated athletes, worked for and outside of their schools and participated in extensive community service. Their plans for the future are bright. Carmona plans to study psychology and ultimately work with veterans, Fermin-Taveras plans to study communication and work toward becoming a journalist and Johnson plans to study criminal justice and accounting.
Cooper Levenson, an Atlantic City-based law firm, established the fund to benefit college-bound Atlantic County residents as part of a year-long celebration of the firm’s 50th anniversary in 2007– and in honor of the practice’s founding partner James L. Cooper, a man who dedicated his life to the law, education, civil rights and community service. “As a firm with its roots in Atlantic City, we have always felt an obligation to take an active role in the betterment of the community, said Lloyd D. Levenson, CEO. “In keeping with the example set by our founder Jim Cooper, we decided to help local students – high school seniors who demonstrate civic responsibility and academic achievement – achieve their goals for a higher education.” “Cooper Levenson has always taken our role as a corporate citizen very seriously,” said Steven Scherzer, Scholarship Committee Chairman. “We firmly believe that the best way to build a better community is to invest in the education of our youth and we are grateful for this opportunity to help local students achieve their higher education goals.”
Cooper Levenson is a full service law firm since 1957, with 70 attorneys and New Jersey offices in Atlantic City, Cherry Hill, Newark, Princeton, and Trenton. The firm has regional offices in Bear, Del., Harrisburg, Pa., and Las Vegas.
