Lewis B. April Presented with Award by Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito recently presented Lewis B. April, a founding partner of Cooper Levenson April Niedelman & Wagenheim, an award for his role as New Jersey State Chair of the United States Supreme Court Historical Society.  April was honored at the Society’s Thirty-Fifth Annual Meeting and Dinner in Washington D.C. on June 7, where he also met Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Justice Stephen G. Brever, Justice Antonin G. Scalia, and Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

 The award, which features the seal of the United States Supreme Court Historical Society, is hand cut from marble sections that were once part of the United States Supreme Court building. “This award will have a place of honor in my office,” said April. “What a privilege it is to be a part of the Society and to meet the Supreme Court Justices and so many other distinguished guests,” he added.

The United States Supreme Court Historical Society, a private non-profit organization, is dedicated to the collection and preservation of the history of the Supreme Court of the United States.  The Society accomplishes its mission by conducting educational programs, supporting historical research, publishing books, journals, and electronic materials, and by collecting antiques and artifacts related to the Court's history. These activities and others increase the public's awareness of the Court's contributions to our nation's rich constitutional heritage.

As New Jersey State Chair, April works towards the Society’s goal of expanding public understanding of the history and heritage of the United States Supreme Court. 

April is Cooper Levenson’s lead partner in the Plaintiff's Litigation Department. He has handled high-profile cases, including a car crash matter that was featured on CNN’s TruTV (formerly Court TV) and ABC's 20/20, the primetime news magazine program featuring co-anchors Elizabeth Vargas and Chris Cuomo. April practices in the areas of personal injury litigation, product liability, property damage litigation, motor vehicle accidents, fall-down matters, dog-bite incidents, elder and nursing home safety, legal malpractice, and the defense of architects, engineers, contractors, and medical device manufacturers.
 
April is Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney and, certified as a Trial Specialist by the American Board of Trial Advocates and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and served as President of the Vincent S. Haneman American Inn of Court. Lewis is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He is an American Arbitration Association panel member and belongs to the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Lewis has lectured for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education on various subjects. He is a Neutral for the National Arbitration Forum's Panel of arbitrators and Mediators, and a member of the Atlantic County, New Jersey and Massachusetts Bar Associations.
           
A graduate of West Virginia University (B.A. 1966) and Suffolk University (J.D. 1969), he was admitted to the Bar in New Jersey and Massachusetts in 1969, the United States District Court, Districts of New Jersey and Massachusetts 1969, the United States Supreme Court in 1975, and Maryland in 1987. April lives in Margate.
