Donio, William S.
Will Donio became a partner of Cooper Levenson in 2003 upon the merger of his own successful Hammonton, New Jersey-based practice (Donio, Bertman & Donio) into the firm. Will chairs Cooper Levenson’s Education Law Practice Group and works with other practice groups such as Employment Law, Land Use, Commercial Litigation, and Municipal / Governmental Services.
His work encompasses such areas as commercial litigation, education law and education-related litigation, as well as commercial transactions, administrative law, municipal law, real estate development and appeals. His background is rich with experience in the public sector working with public entities, municipalities and boards of education. Will presently serves as solicitor for the Hammonton Board of Education, the Linwood Board of Education, the Egg Harbor Township Board of Education, the Evesham Township Board of Education, the Port Republic Board of Education, the Galloway Community Charter School, the Oceanside Charter School, the Middle Township Board of Education, the Cape May Technical School District Board of Education, the Upper Township Board of Education, and the Wildwood Crest Board of Education. Will is special counsel for the Atlantic City Board of Education and the Mainland Regional Board of Education. Will has previously represented the Northfield Board of Education, the Sea Isle City Board of Education, the Washington Township-Burlington County Board of Education and the Hamilton Township Board of Education. Will is also on the assigned counsel list for the Atlantic and Cape May Counties School Business Officials Joint Insurance Fund and the Burlington County Joint Insurance Fund and has represented numerous boards of education in Southern New Jersey, including the Voorhees Township Board of Education, the Medford Township Board of Education and the Egg Harbor City Board of Education. He is the former municipal prosecutor for Winslow Township and Chesilhurst Borough, was the conflicts prosecutor for Berlin Borough, Gloucester Township, and Waterford Township, and was also substitute prosecutor for numerous other municipalities. Will is also an adjunct professor at Rutgers School of Law - Camden, where he teaches Education Law & Practice.
Will’s community service work includes previously serving as a coach for the Hammonton High School Mock Trial Team, assisting with the organization and incorporation of the Hammonton Education Foundation, the Community Partnership for Egg Harbor Township Schools, Inc., the Galloway Community Charter School Foundation for Education, and assisting with the organization and incorporation of the Red and White Gridiron Foundation for St. Joseph’s High School. He also serves as a Founding and Present Trustee of the Samuel A. Donio Foundation for Education which awards scholarships to graduating Seniors from Hammonton High School and St. Joseph’s High School in Hammonton as well as provides grant money for educational programs. Will has volunteered and provided pro bono work for the South Jersey Aids Alliance and at area schools including Hammonton, Egg Harbor Township and volunteer presentations for NJ School Boards Assn., Atlantic County and various education professional associations. Will has served as a pro bono attorney for the LEAP Academy Charter School and was an attorney member of the District I Ethics Committee 2003-2006.
Will was honored with two "40 Under 40" awards - one from the New Jersey Law Journal and one from Atlantic City Weekly. A graduate of Rutgers College - Rutgers the State University (B.A. 1991) with High Honors in History, Will was a Presidential Scholarship recipient, a Henry Rutgers Scholar, and a graduate of the General Honors Program. He is also a graduate of Columbia University School of Law (J.D. 1995), where he was Production Editor of the Columbia Business Law Review, and interned for the Honorable Joseph Rodriguez, USDJ. Will was admitted to the bar in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and the U.S. District Courts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania in 1995, and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in 1996. A former member of the District I Ethics Committee, he belongs to the Camden County Bar Association and the Atlantic County Bar Association.
