Client Alert: Hiring Minor Employees for Summer? Complete NJ Working Papers Registration First

As we approach the summer season, employers need to be aware that all minor employees must be registered with the State’s MyWorkingPapers.NJ.gov program.

When you extend an offer to a potential minor employee, provide them with your 8-digit Employer Unique Code (EUC).  They will then register themselves and link their employment to your EUC.

You cannot allow any minor employees to start working until this paperwork is complete.  Paper forms and signatures from a minor employee’s school district are no longer used.  This system is streamlined and is entirely paperless but must be completed to avoid penalties from the State Department of Labor.  If you have any questions about this process, the Employment Law Department at Cooper Levenson is available to assist you.
