Cooper Levenson Ceo Lloyd D. Levenson to Chair American Heart Association’s Heart-Healthy Lifestyle Campaign

In an effort to encourage more Americans to live a heart-healthy lifestyle, the American Heart Association (AHA) is bringing its national health, wellness and fitness movement, “My Heart. My Life.” to Southern New Jersey. Lloyd D. Levenson, CEO of Cooper Levenson, has been appointed as chairman of the AHA’s Southern New Jersey campaign which serves residents, businesses and communities in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties.

“Unfortunately, many of us are heading down a path where we don’t get enough exercise or eat nutritious meals,” said Levenson. “Research reveals that sedentary jobs have increased 83% since 1950. Physically active jobs now make up just about 25% of our workforce. In addition, less than one percent of U.S. adults meet the American Heart Association’s definition for ‘Ideal Healthy Diet.’ ‘My Heart. My Life’ will help inspire us to make lifesaving behavior changes so that we can improve those statistics.”

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the world and the leading cause of death in the United States, killing almost 380,000 Americans a year, reports the American Heart Association. Total cardiovascular diseases and stroke claim more than 787,500 American lives annually, including more than 22,500 in New Jersey. These deaths are more than all forms of cancer combined. About 83.6 million Americans are living with some form of cardiovascular disease or the after-effects of stroke.

The “My Heart. My Life” campaign will include a series of fun educational events and fundraising activities at Cooper Levenson and within the local community. As an American Heart Association Gold Fit-Friendly workplace for the past two years, Cooper Levenson continues to create a culture of wellness.

Last year, the firm’s activities included a healthy recipe cook-off, a “Go Red for Women” red shoe contest day, a walk and climb to the top of the Absecon Lighthouse, a jump rope program, a Salsa dance lesson series, an oatmeal breakfast program, and educational programs about healthy choices of all types. Some of these activities will be incorporated into the 2015 program. The “My Heart. My Life.” campaign will culminate at the American Heart Association Heart Walk, scheduled for May 16, 2015 in Ocean City, N.J.
