EGG HARBOR TWP. -A local outreach group is teaming up with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey to deliver food to hungry children this winter.
Officials with Let Us Eat, Please arrived at the Davenport School in Egg Harbor Township Wednesday morning, just one of the many local schools receiving food donations through the program.
The group’s mission is to feed children who may miss meals over the holiday break that are usually provided by their school.
Officials say they traditionally only make food donations during the summer, but it felt it was vital to step in at a time when the need is so great.
“It’s very, very thrilling, and sometimes can bring tears to your eyes,” said James Cooper, an organizer for Let Us Eat, Please.
“When you see the kids and the families that are really in need of the food, and you can help these families. This is especially important now that there’s been so much unemployment in Atlantic County.”
Let Us Eat, Please donated over 31,000 meals to hungry families over the summer.
